Turbo's Oshkosh

Hi! This is Turbo! I am taking over my mom's blog to let you know that she is trying to get all caught up and will give you her rundown of Oshkosh shortly! While she was away at EAA AirVenture she was quite busy selling aircraft insurance as well as books one and two of the Turbo the Flying Dog children's book series. She says thank you to everyone who stopped by to see her. While she was rushing around, I enjoyed a flight to and from Grandma's house with my dad in the Glasair!

Turbo was the only appropriate name for the pup, who took to flying right from the beginning. Turbo is more than comfortable around an airport and demands the attention of fellow pilots and aviation enthusiasts everywhere he lands. To date, he has logged 89 hours of flight.

Can you name a female pilot other than Amelia?

This past weekend, I had a family reunion. On one of the rare, quiet mornings, a family member and I were enjoying some time reading on the deck in the sun. We exchanged book titles and I explained that I was finally getting to a book I had wanted to read for quite some time, Three-Eight Charlie about the first woman to fly solo around the world: Jerrie Mock.

"Amelia Earhart didn't do that? That's the only female pilot I know of," he responded.

I chuckled, used to people only knowing about Amelia Earhart, a woman pilot who had achieved many great things, but so often spreads a shadow over her amazing female pilot counterparts. I politely explained Amelia's accomplishments compared to Jerrie's then continued on with my reading. Later, however, it got me thinking how I can't stand it bothers me when people call me "Amelia" or how often remarkable women of aviation's past are forgotten in exchanged for the mystery of the missing Amelia.

I would like to challenge my readers to comment below and share:

1. a present female pilot they admire
2. a past female pilot who would make a good role model for future women pilots
3. if you are a female pilot, tell us a bit more about your aviation journey
4. Share this post to keep the comments growing

With just a moment of your time by posting a comment below, maybe we can open the world's eyes to a few more women pilots!

Turbo the Flying Dog Now Available on Amazon Kindle

At two years old and weighing in at a lanky 24 pounds, rescue dog Turbo has logged more time in the air than most people. A children’s book based on his life was released in paperback in December 2014 and is now available in digital form through Amazon Kindle.

In December 2012, Victoria Zajko, a commercial pilot, and her pilot husband flew from their home in Maryland to West Virginia to adopt a puppy from local rescue. Turbo was the only appropriate name for the pup, who took to flying right from the beginning. Turbo loves to be in the air and demands the attention of fellow pilots and aviation enthusiasts everywhere he lands. Zajko says that Turbo is closing in on his 100th hour logged in a plane.
